A used couch can sell quickly, but buyers need more confidence than they do for a small item. They have to know it will fit, look decent in their space, and be worth the pickup effort.
Take photos that answer buyer questions
Do not use one dark photo from across the room. Take a few simple shots:
- Front view of the whole couch.
- Side view so buyers can see depth and legs.
- Close-up of the fabric or leather.
- Any stains, scratches, sagging, or wear.
- A photo of cushions removed if the frame or sleeper matters.
Open the blinds, turn on lights, and clear the area around it. You do not need a styled room. You just need the couch to be easy to see.
Put measurements in the listing
Measurements are not optional for furniture. Include width, depth, height, and seat height if you can. For sectionals, include both sides. For sleepers, mention the mattress size if you know it.
A buyer who knows it will fit is much more likely to message seriously.
Be honest about condition
Couch buyers worry about smells, pets, stains, and sagging. If the couch is from a smoke-free home, say it. If you have pets, say that too. If there is a stain, show it and mention it.
Honest condition notes filter out bad-fit buyers and make the in-person pickup smoother.
Price for the pickup hassle
Big furniture is harder to move than a pair of shoes or a kitchen appliance. Even a nice couch may need a lower price if the buyer has to rent a truck, bring a helper, or carry it down stairs.
If you want it gone fast, price it like convenience matters. If you can wait, start higher and lower it after a few days.
Write the pickup details clearly
Good pickup details reduce back-and-forth. Mention your general area, whether there are stairs, elevator access, and whether the buyer needs to bring help.
Example: "Pickup near Silver Lake. Buyer must bring a truck and one helper. Couch is on the first floor."
A couch listing that works
"Gray 3-seat sofa, 82 inches wide, clean and comfortable with normal fabric wear. Good for an apartment, guest room, or first place. No major stains or damage. Smoke-free home. Pickup near downtown, first floor. Buyer must bring help."
That listing works because it answers the real questions: what is it, will it fit, what condition is it in, and how does pickup work.
